Here’s to you… December 2, 2010

Today’s Here’s to you… award goes to a company that I probably should have recognized awhile ago: Starbucks. In the past month Starbucks has:

  • Given me a free drink for waiting “too long” for my drink. I actually had not even realized it had been longer than usual, but am thrilled they thought so 🙂
  • Brought my first feelings of holiday cheer when they released their holiday cups (and seasonal cranberry bliss bars! mmmm)

  • Let me play a game online to win a 4 pack of Starbucks Via…which I forgot about until today when it came in the mail!
  • Had an awesome buy one get one free promotion for holiday drinks which I took advantage of…twice.
  • Created a great holiday commercial:

The creativity of their marketing, sensitivity of their customer service, and deliciousness of their drinks keep me coming back probably more often than I should. Here’s to you…Starbucks.

Festive Halloween Drink October 29, 2010

Picture Links to Southwest Airlines Spirit Magazine site

On my flight to Denver just about a month ago I was flipping through Southwest Airlines Spirit Magazine and came across a recipe for a Pumpkin Bomb – a festive October drink that combined seasonal beer and goldschlagger.

Always intrigued by new drinks that are: easy to make, fun for events, and hopefully delicious, I quickly opened the Notes app on my ipod touch and typed the recipe for my records. (Clearly forgetting that you can Google anything and I could find it at home later).

Here is the recipe:

Honey or Agave Syrup

2 tsp granulated sugar

1 tsp Cinnamon

One Ounce Goldschlagger

15 oz Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale

1/2 tsp Chopped toasted pumpkin seeds (I'll probably eliminate these from mine)

1. Dip rim of pint glass in honey or agave syrup. Combine cinnamon and sugar and coat rim of glass in mixture.
2. Pour Goldschlager into glass and top off with pumpkin ale. Sprinkle pumpkin seeds and another pinch of cinnamon-sugar on the head of the beer.

I look forward to trying it this Halloween weekend.

Here’s to you… August 25, 2010

Two summer’s ago I found a TON of ice cream recipes in magazines. I pulled them all out and was pumped to start making ice cream… and then I read the instructions. I’m sure it’s obvious to all of you, but I didn’t realize you HAD to have an ice cream maker.  Yes, I know, dumb blonde moment. Anyways, I put all those recipes away and made a mental note to ask for one for the next gift giving holiday…

Well, 2 years of holidays passed, and each time the ice cream maker idea escaped me. Fortunately, the topic of making ice cream came up in a family discussion just before my birthday this year and…voila! Ice cream maker in my kitchen.

What makes it awesome? Simple ingredients. Short amount of time. Custom, homemade ice cream.

What have I made? Vanilla, S’mores, and fresh garden picked blackberry sorbet. De.Lic.Ious.

What’s next? Butter Pecan, Frozen Yogurt, Cheesecake ice cream…the list is endless.

Summer Refresher August 17, 2010

This past weekend I tasted total refreshment. Thanks to Miss CKim and new friend Sarah, who created a drink I would never have thought of. I liked it so much I made it again the next night for my family. To make it, combine the following in a wine glass:

1/2 glass white wine (I used Chardonnay)

1/2 glass sparkling grapefruit juice (I used Izze, but any kind is good!)

A few ice cubes per glass

Diced peaches (a few slices per glass)

What do you call it? No idea! Maybe just “The Delicious”?!

Mac n Cheese was my all time favorite food as a kid. Still is one of my favorite foods. And now their commercials are hilarious:

Have you had enough?

I may have to try that baked kind…
